Dreed Tea Holiday Look

The girls over at DreedTea asked me to put together a Holiday Look. I'm super excited to be working with such creative, fun, and fashionable girls. Be sure to check out their site and share your love!
Dreed Tea Holiday Look

Each season has its own wardrobe perks. Spring/Summer brings out the brighter side of my typical look with fun, bold colors. Fall gives a California girl like myself an opportunity to wear fabulous coats, boots, scarves and loads and loads of layers. Once the holiday season rolls around I'm ready to take fashion to the next level and DRESS UP!!! Like, all the way up! If there's ever a time to break the rules, take a risk, or even arrive "over dressed", it's now. Something about cold weather and holiday spirits always brings out my inner bad (yet classy) ass. (Not that I am ever opposed to metallics, studs, or deep jewel tones) In this holiday look, I used relatively simple pieces that can also be worn throughout the year. I love the flirty feeling of chiffon, so I paired a gorgeous embellished, sheer top with a layered, cobalt blue, chiffon skirt. I added the white tuxedo jacket as a  layering piece to brighten up the outfit, as well as to add some structure to the soft pieces that I chose. The shirt should be tucked into the skirt with the cuffs and the collar pulled out. If the sleeves of the jacket are too long, you can either fold up the sleeves, or even scrunch them up to expose the cuffs. To complete the look, I added accessories that extenuate the silver embellishment of the shirt, add character, and tell a story. Accessories are always key, no matter what look you are going for. Think of yourself the canvas. Just as a painting is not complete without shadows and highlights, neither is your look without a finishing touch. Styling is just like any other art form. When putting together a look, you are the artist. So this holiday season, choose your palette, think of what story you want to tell, add the details, and put the finished product on display!

Happy Channuka, Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year!!!!

Diamond in the Rough - The Wool Hat

I admit, a shopping thrill can feel very much like winning the lottery for me. In fact, my absolute favorite item which I've ever owned were purchased at 60% off ontop of which I had my wonderful employee discount. They were the most beautiful pair of gold, jeweled, peep toe Miu Miu flats. Then, one unfortunate night out in Hollywood, I accidentally left them in my friends rental car and they were never to be seen again. This was about three years ago and they still come to mind every now and again. So you can imagine how much I cherish a really good buy, especially when it's "dirt cheap".

Last week Doron and I were enjoying a chilly Friday afternoon, walking around the city and happened to be checking out some really cool (yet overly priced) vintage stores. Suddenly Doron pulls me into an path leading to the back of someones apartment. A small sign from the sidewalk read "Second Hand". The store was basically someones backyard, turned garage sale, turned second hand store, with the most bizarre collection of things. A friendly old man sat among his cat posse, delighted to see a young, curious couple walk in. We took a stroll through the tiny yet very intriguing place. As we browsed, we saw things from a french book on Manet to an old trombone. To be perfectly honest though, I'm not much of a wizard when it comes to finding the diamond in the rough. I'm a Nordstrom girl and I do best in a well merchandised store. Doron however, having that amazing gift, picks up this beautiful, blue, wool fedora. I observe it and it's in perfect condition. I feel it, flip it over and suddenly to my surprise read "RAG AND BONE, Handmade in the United States". The inside is perfectly stitched and lined with a cute little bow detail. When I put it on, it was a perfect fit. I knew this hat had to be mine, and when asking the price I had to keep in mind everything I've learned this past year in Bargaining 101. The next step went something like this:

Me: How much do you want for this hat?
Old Man: Emmm, well lets see. [takes the hat, studies it, looks on the inside] Ah Rag and Bone! There a very big designer. Handmade in the United States
Me: Oh really? Hmm I've never heard of them.... (I pat myself on the back for that comment!)
Old Man: Yeah yeah... emmmm... 30 Shekel (That's just about $8!)
Me: Ok! thank you so much (Secretly gleaming inside!)

SCORE!!!!!

PS. This was my first time putting myself in a blog post!
Show your support, tell me what you think and comment =)

Part 2 Tel Aviv Fashion Week 2011 - On the Catwalk

It always amazes me to think about the fact that Israel was established only 64 years ago, and yet has been able to rapidly grow and modernize to what it is today. In 1943, the first Fashion Week ever was held in Paris, France. November 2011, Israel held its first fashion show in over 30 years. Of course Fashion Weeks in Paris, Milan, and New York hold decades of experience on Tel Aviv. However, that didn't stop Israel from hosting a successful event filled with mesmerizing talents. There were clear cut signs of contemporary influences from those like Alexander Wang, Alexander Mcqueen, Helmut Lang, Roberto Cavalli and other international designers. But staying true to form, no matter what has inspired an Israeli, their designs are always unique, original, and have a Middle Eastern/Mediterranean twist. So did it compete with a New York Fashion Week? Not so much... Were there some wacky designs that screamed Israeli? Unfortunately so...  But the most vital piece of this whole fashion extravaganza must I say? It exposed Tel Aviv to tons of International Press from America, Italy, Russia, Japan etc... making such an impression that some are already dying to return. Along with all of this international spotlight, I think we've finally got the rest of the worlds attention on something other than war (thank heavens) hopefully wanting to join in for future shows. Here my top picks from the best of Tel Aviv Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2011 catwalk.

Guest of Honor Roberto Cavalli

One of Israel's youngest and most talented Fashion Designers (Previous winner of Israeli Project Runway) and my personal favorite learned under some of the greatest fashion houses, McQueen and Cavalli. Livne showed itty bitty tinie winie shorts, lots and lots of sheer, baroque prints, and flaunted his incredible craftsmanship and eye for detail.

Mainly known in the bridal world, Galit Levi designs for women who want all eyes on them when walking into a room. Immediately I thought of Elie Saab and Monique Lullier with her crystal drenched gowns and 100,000s fabric petals. Galit's dresses are no doubt a work of art.

Former dancer turned Designer, Yosef's designs are inspired by the human body and it's movement. Peretz is known for his colorful, digital prints many times engraved with the intricate details of the feathers of a peacock and scales of a fish.

Dorit Bar Or
Who doesn't love the combination of gold and black, especially when is shines? Former Israeli Actress and well known Fashion Designer, Dorit Bar Or, showed her beautiful line which consisted of mainly just that. Gold and Black. Her pieces are seductive and exotic with the middle eastern theme, however, I don't think it showed anything fresh and innovative to the sea of international fashion leaders who've probably seen it all.

Gideon Oberson

Sugar Daddy

Nathaniel Zikri

Up and Coming Israeli Designers
Israel Ohayon
Up and coming Israeli Designer tops the hot list from FW. His designs, which felt much like an Alexander McQueen show, were and even more eye dazzling in person. Israel Ohayon is one of Israel's up and coming designers and after this show, I don't see how a inventor like himself wont succeed.

Mandika
Also in the category of Up and Coming Israeli Fashion Designers, Mandinka displayed beautiful clean lines, geometric shapes, sophistication yet femininity.

Inbal Gvili
Inspired by Alfred Hitchcock's film "The Birds".

Tali Ravid

Sharon Vaizer
